ACFS and FTA team up to smash the Stink Bug

ACFS Port Logistics and Freight & Trade Alliance are hosting activities on 25 and 26 July 2019 to support the Western Australian import sector in the lead up to the Brown marmorated stink bug season starting 1 September.

In a statement, the FTA indicated the year ahead would provide a mighty challenge.

“The previous 2018-19 BMSB season stretched Australia’s border biosecurity system close to breaking point and had severe impacts on sections of the shipping and importing industries,” the FTA said.

In response and as a part of a national education campaign, the FTA is to host technical sessions and showcase commercial solutions to best meet biosecurity compliance.

An accredited continuing professional development session is to be delivered by the FTA’s Andrew Crawford at the Swan Yacht Club on Thursday 25 July.

The detailed session is to focus on operational requirements to mitigate the risk of BMSB through treatment options, increased utilisation of entry processing for commodities approved arrangements and new “safeguarding arrangement” options.

The training is expected to help industry navigate through revised policy regarding LCL/FAK consignments.
